What we are looking for

The academic requirements are rigorous. Candidates should have an excellent track record of achievement at school and university with a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in chemistry or a science subject that includes a substantial proportion of chemistry. We are open to applications from candidates holding or studying for a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD degree.

Excellent spoken and written English are essential to the role, as are an eye for detail and the ability to explain complex matters clearly. We are also looking for candidates who are proactive, outgoing and friendly, team players and good listeners.

What we offer

We offer a programme of training to take you right through to qualification as a patent attorney (European and UK Chartered). We support you with one-to-one mentoring, external courses, internal tutorials and on-the-job training. Our reputation for training and our record of first-time examination successes are second to none. We will continue to support your professional development throughout your career with the firm.

To apply

We usually encourage trainee patent attorneys to start with us in the autumn, in a recognised peer group, although we can be flexible about start dates. We encourage applications before the end of the calendar year for candidates who wish to start the following autumn. We will, however, consider applications from exceptional candidates at any time of the year.

Your application should include a CV and covering letter addressed to the head of the Chemistry & Pharmaceuticals Group, Celia Keen.
