To succeed, you will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, and 2-3 years’ experience of working with UK, European and UK clients. You will have passed all foundation exams or equivalent qualification (QMUL, Bournemouth, etc), and have demonstrable drafting experience. You will be able to demonstrate analytical skills, the ability to communicate effectively with staff and clients at all levels, the ability to prioritise work and manage time effectively.

You will play an integral part within the Advanced Engineering team, taking on real responsibility from the start. Key duties will include:

• Corresponding with clients, Patent Offices and overseas Attorneys;
• Researching prior art and devising creative and persuasive arguments against objections;
• Thoroughly analysing and editing existing patent specifications to overcome objections;
• Drafting specifications for complex inventions;
• Drafting simple specifications for simple inventions without significant supervision;
• Meeting with clients – more commonly industrial companies than individual inventors;
• Attending hearings at the European Patent Office;
• Building a network of contacts with future business development in mind.
