Created by the Patent Law Amendment Act 1852, The Patent Office opened on the 1 October 1852.
Now know as the Intellectual Property Office, the Patent Office were responsibly for granting patents, managing the Patent Museum (which moved to the Science Museum in 1884) and running the Patent Library.
The Intellectual Property Office has responsibility for trade marks designs, copyright and patents.
