China has amended two of its IP laws in a bid to enhance trademark and trade secret protection in the country. The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) rolled out the amendments at its bi-monthly meeting from April 20 to April 23.

The European Union Intellectual Property Office has ruled that UK-based supermarket chain Iceland Food Ltd could not register a trademark for the sole use of the word “Iceland” within the European Union.
