Patent Paralegal – Leeds

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced IP Paralegal to join the firm’s patents team in Leeds. The role involves providing critical support in patent prosecution, liaising with clients and patent offices and ensuring efficient case management. This position offers a hybrid working model, allowing a balance of office-based collaboration and remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Application Management: Assist in preparing, filing and managing patent applications across various jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with all procedural requirements
  • Documentation Preparation: Draft and review legal documents, correspondence and reports related to patent filings and prosecutions
  • Deadline Monitoring: Track critical deadlines and manage docketing systems to ensure timely responses and submissions
  • Client Communication: Liaise with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates on application statuses and address inquiries
  • Coordination with Authorities: Communicate with patent offices and external agents to facilitate the progression of applications and resolve any procedural issues
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the firm’s case management system, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Educational Background: A degree or equivalent qualification in law, science, or engineering is preferred
  • Experience: Previous experience in a patent paralegal or similar role within an intellectual property law firm or in-house IP department
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with patent procedures and regulations in the UK and internationally
  • Organisational Skills: Exceptional ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise workloads and meet strict deadlines
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all aspects of work
  • Team Collaboration: A proactive team player who can also work independently when required
