We are looking for candidates with excellent academic backgrounds in computing to train and qualify as Chartered and European Patent Attorneys whilst working on leading-edge computer technologies.

We seek candidates with, or about to obtain, Masters or PhD level qualifications in computer science or a related discipline to assist in patenting inventions in technologies including machine learning, image and video processing, robotics, virtual reality, artificial intelligence and driverless vehicles. Our clients include big-name innovative technology companies, universities and university spin-outs, as well as niche players in high tech fields.

You will need to be articulate in both written and verbal forms as you will need to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely.  You must demonstrate an interest in law and have proven analytical abilities.  Other skills that are needed include commercial awareness and the ability and confidence to talk to clients and other professionals who may or may not share your technical background.

Attracting the brightest and best technical people is fundamental to our success. Our focus is on ensuring that our clients receive the highest level of service possible and that the advice they are given is pragmatic and commercial and works for them and their businesses. To do this we must first of all recruit the right people. We are looking for people who are at the top of their game academically, but who are also able to bring a broader view to the workplace. Original thinkers with the ability to work within a team will flourish at Venner Shipley.

In return, we will offer you a supportive environment where you will receive the training and the encouragement required to develop your career. We believe that the culture of our firm is, overall, one of learning: everyone from trainees to partners is encouraged and expected to continue learning throughout their careers. Our collegiate and open approach, coupled with the personalities that we employ, fosters this progressive culture.

Opportunities exist in our London and Guildford offices, and in the future there may be opportunities to work out of one of our other UK offices or possibly overseas.  As a full service IP firm with a significant legal offering, there may be opportunities to become involved in the litigation aspects of our practice.
