Formed 140 years ago, Swindell & Pearson provides a high-quality, client-focused service to companies, academic institutions, government agencies and individuals.
We are one of the UK’s leading specialists in patents and trademarks. Some of the world’s foremost multi-national companies trust our attorneys with their patent and trade mark portfolios. We have been climbing the legal 500 rankings and many of our attorneys are personally recommended in these rankings. Our business has seen excellent growth even during recent difficult economic climates.
Our client relationships are extremely important to us and we invest heavily in establishing and maintaining these relationships. In order to make sure that we deliver outcomes our clients want we are patient, approachable, responsive and dependable.
We care for our employees and provide personalised support for their journeys from trainee to director level. We have a transparent and clearly communicated career progression plan for our attorneys. Our directors work very closely with our trainees to help them attain the personal targets that they have in their own individual progression plan.
Although being an attorney involves a lot of individual working we think it is important that our trainees feel that they are part of a team. To facilitate the team building all of our trainees are based in our Derby head office and new trainees will share an office with one or more other trainees. Trainees will also have daily face to face supervisions with a director. We also provide firm wide social activities including netball matches, football matches, annual summer and Christmas events.
We recognise that training to be an attorney is a big commitment and can be very hard work. In order to assist in this we provide a comprehensive induction program and weekly training seminars for all of our trainees. This is in addition to the daily supervisions with a director where you would discuss your individual cases. We also provide both internal and external training for exams as required.
As patent attorneys the nature of our work involves cutting edge technology. At Swindell and Pearson you would also be working on a range of different technologies for a range of different types of client. As a trainee you would be given responsibility for you own cases from the very beginning. A director will supervise you very closely, initially instructing you how to do everything and then, over time, teaching you how to make complex analyses, prepare strategies for the clients and make clear decisions.
Derby was recently voted one of the best places in the country to live for people under the age of thirty. Derby offers affordable accommodation, with many of our trainees choosing to live within walking distance of our head office.
Our office is based a short walk away from a large shopping centre and the famous Derby Cathedral Quarter which contains a variety of individual cafés and bars.
Derby is located in the east midlands not far from the Peak District, and just a 90-minute train ride from London with excellent transport links to Nottingham, Birmingham and other major cities.
