Founded in 1934, chartered in 2016, the Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA) is a UK-based professional membership organisation with the power to shape law and practice – nationally and internationally.
It represents the interests of over 1,500 trade mark and design professionals from over 50 countries, and fights to bring recognition to the work they do.
CITMA equips and supports its membership to be competitive and successful by promoting the value of intellectual property and the role they play in protecting it.
It also feeds their enthusiasm for the profession through regular conferences and events, professional development courses, newsletters, social media debate and the CITMA Review.
Its community of members includes more than 700 Chartered Trade Mark Attorneys, those in training and support roles, international attorneys and barristers and solicitors with a trade mark or design interest.
A commitment to corporate social responsibility underpins its work. CITMA helps promote diversity and inclusion, and provides access to advice that might otherwise be out of reach to individuals and small businesses.
CITMA has legal responsibility for regulating the profession, which is delegated to the Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg).
